Seventh Annual National Community Networking Conference

BPL/Wireless Workshops: Format & Session Leader Information

Session Format:
Sessions are intended not as 'talking heads' panel of three or four speakers but as interactive events, drawing on expertise from several knowledgeable experts on hand as well as other members of the audience. Moderator will identify participating experts and their projects.

Rather than a comprehensive prepared presentation, each session leader offers a very succinct summary (5 min. max) identifying key issues and challenges based on their project experience. These summaries frame topics for following discussion among participants. Though PowerPoint capability is available, it might be better to offer a simpler list of key points, supplemented by printed handout materials. We ask leaders to get session content information to us a week in advance so we can print out copies for all attendees. Please send to email address below.

Content should be very open and objective; thus the conference will avoid directly quoting named speakers on frank opinions. At this nonprofit educational workshop, speakers are strongly requested to avoid any content attendees might feel is ‘commercial’ in any way. (We’ve had a few complaints on this in past events so we’ve become more sensitive to this over time.) Speakers can of course warmly urge attendees to come to their booth in the trade/display area.

Discussion:
The workshop will provide practical, objective sessions on BPL/wireless community broadband platforms, emphasizing legal, economic and political realities rather than theory and philosophy.
Each session should provide participants with clear, pragmatic information on considerations for planning successful local wireless and BPL broadband projects. Handouts are encouraged.

Session participants should be introduced and encouraged to continue working with each other, sharing information and assistance in a cooperative manner. TCRC will help provide a forum for continuation of this sharing and collaboration.
