A workshop will be offered in the main lunchroom, room 2.102, for attendees interested in telecom discounts, subsidies and e-rate available to eligible groups.  Or you may choose lunchtime conversational networking in other dining areas.

1:30 Cable & DSL

DSL and Cable modem access are perhaps the most rapidly growing broadband options, now beginning to deploy widely across the nation. XDSL brings high speed Internet on existing telephone lines; cable does the same on existing (entertainment) cable lines. Will DSL prevail? Or will the Web and "The Sopranos" rule the Information Age together? Don't miss this presentation!

2:45 Wireless

Spread spectrum (and licensed) wireless bandwidth has been awaited as a solution for many high-speed connectivity requirements.  It's (usually) cheaper to build infrastructure, ignores Telco boundaries, and installs quickly when available.  But there are limits.  This session explains all the advantages and disadvantages of wide area broadband wireless.

3:45 Satellite

The newest widely-publicized choice for Internet connections may be satellite access.  It's available just about everywhere and offers higher speeds than dialup lines.  so is it the ultimate answer for Internet access?  Or just "pie in the sky?"  This session clearly describes satellite promises and realities.
